Meal Delivery

Nutritious, made-from-scratch meals delivered to our homebound and critically ill neighbors.

What we do

Community Servings provides home-delivered meals and nutrition services to individuals and families living with critical and chronic illnesses. Our made-from-scratch meals are medically tailored – meaning they’re customized to meet the nutritional and medical needs of our clients who are fighting illnesses like HIV/AIDS, diabetes, cancer, kidney disease, and many others. We offer 15 medical diets, with up to three combinations per client.

We deliver to 20 cities and towns in Massachusetts across 300 square miles and a pilot program in Rhode Island. For clients that reside outside of our delivery area, they may pick up their meals at Community Servings. We provide meals for the client and family members including a caregiver, parent/spouse, and children under the age of 18.

Who We Serve

Our meals are available to people living with a life-threatening illness and unable to shop or cook for themselves. Life-threatening illness include, but are not restricted to, HIV/AIDS, cancer, renal illnesses, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and heart disease.

Eligibility is based on:

  • Extent of illness
  • Client’s lack of mobility
  • Factors that make it difficult for the client to shop and cook, like living in a food desert, being in a wheelchair, or not being able to carry groceries.

To determine eligibility, individuals must submit a completed intake packet, including a medical certification form completed by their doctor or nurse. Once paperwork has been submitted, we may contact the individual, their doctor, nurse, or case worker directly for further clarification in order to make the best eligibility assessment.

Our goal is to be there for our clients when they need us the most. Clients can receive our meals for as long as needed and may go on and off our service as their medical needs change, much like a prescription. Each year clients must be medically certified in order to remain eligible for our meals.

Demographics

  • We deliver to 20 cities and towns in Massachusetts, plus a senior care site in Rhode Island.
  • We have no income eligibility, but 92% of our clients are living in poverty.
  • Our clients range in age from 2 to 101 years, with the average age of 53.
  • 72% of our clients have multiple diagnoses
  • 49% of our clients are female, 51% are male, and <1% are transgender.
  • 62% of our clients are from racial/ethnic minorities.

Client Stories

Our clients face hardships that would otherwise prevent access to nutritious meals. It’s important to recognize that a critical illness does not change who our clients are, but it can change how they are able to navigate their lives. Our goals are to help our clients maintain their health and dignity, preserve the integrity of their families, and send the message to those in greatest need that someone cares.
